Open house honored Molly Sharkey’s dream and the people who helped build a lasting resource for patients and families.
Molly’s House welcomed the community to tour the house and see recent updates inside and out on September 21, the 30th anniversary of its opening and Molly Sharkey’s birthday. The open house is the first of several activities over the next few months to mark the milestone.
Members of the local medical and business communities, residents, and the curious stopped by throughout the day to learn more about Molly’s House and talk with staff and Molly’s family. The day closed with a reception honoring and thanking those who made Molly’s House possible, including early supporters, volunteers, and the countless contractors who donated their time and materials to build the house.
Kevin Sharkey, Molly’s father, said that during their family’s travels for Molly’s medical care, “She understood how important housing was for patients and their families, and she kept a detailed journal of the house she wanted built in her hometown.” Her family and community came together to make it happen. Although Molly didn’t live to see the house finished, she saw the blueprints for the house she dreamed of.
“Molly’s House offers more than lodging,” said Executive Director Katie Bartlett. “We provide a sense of community for our guests. They cook together and share stories, exactly what Molly wanted to create.”
Dreams Gala: A Celebration of Molly’s Dream is the next major 30th anniversary event. It will be held on November 7 at Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa. Molly’s House is a 14-bedroom healthcare hospitality house in Stuart’s medical district, providing patients and families with a welcoming place to stay close to their care and treatment teams. We welcome guests of all ages and diagnoses, and any provider can refer them.
